EB-1 Extraordinary Ability / Multinational

First-preference immigrant visa for extraordinary ability and multinational managers.

About this visa

EB-1 is an employment-based immigrant category that includes extraordinary ability, outstanding professors and researchers, and certain multinational executives and managers. Each subcategory has its own legal standard and sponsorship requirements.

An EB-1A extraordinary-ability petition may be self-sponsored; EB-1B and EB-1C require a qualifying employer. Evidence may center on sustained recognition, an academic record and qualifying research or teaching position, or the corporate relationship and managerial employment. Approval of an immigrant petition is separate from obtaining permanent residence, which also depends on visa availability and the final application stage.
